Impression
At first we could not believe that there actually was a hotel here, simply because it is impossible to see the hotel from the canal and there is no sign to indicate its presence. By driving very slowly and carefully looking out of your window, you will finally notice the hotel behind a beautiful old gate. Once you have entered the gate, you find yourself in a totally different world. This hotel truly belongs to the class of hotels that leaves you staring with your mouth open at first sight. The interior was designed by Anouska Hempel, who also designed the famous Blakes hotel in London. Nothing of the interior may be changed without permission from this extraordinary designer. The interior is modern in a traditional way, with lots of black and white. The pieces of furniture, which seem old at first sight, are in fact all recently manufactured copies of the originals.

reception
We met with an excellent reception. Of course the personnel first waits to see which way the wind blows, but this is only normal considering that you are in the most expensive hotel in the Netherlands. But after a nice introductory conversation the ice is easily broken and you are welcomed into the hotel’s family of personnel and guests. The people who welcome you have a table with a laptop as their reception desk. All the personnel are dressed in nice-looking, very smart suits - fortunately there is no work clothes policy. Everything in the hotel happens in a modern, trendy way and all the male guest wear Rolexes - this is simply a must.

public areas
The public areas are excellent as well and have been decorated in a trendy, yet traditional way. The lounge, for example, is divided into separate chill-out corners and the large comfortable sofas with cushions and wickerwork give it a perfect finishing touch. Even the background music has been carefully selected to match the hotel’s style. The hotel also has an unique inner court, which is completely surrounded by the hotel’s walls. In the evening you will truly imagine yourself in a different world here, thanks to the romantic atmosphere created by the torches and candles. Even the staircases and elevators in this hotel are in top condition.

rooms
The rooms have also been furnished in Anouska Hempel’s style. She has even gone as far as to ensure that the internet connection is located in the bathroom because she does not want people working in her rooms. Her rooms are made for relaxing, she feels, and we certainly agree with her that these rooms provide the guests with the greatest pleasure. All the rooms are decorated differently, but they all share the same romantic atmosphere and have large candleholders with dripping candles standing next to the bathtubs. Because of this, the hotel is not only perfect for business trips but also for very romantic weekends. The old nature of the hotel has also been taken into consideration. You can tell by the old beams in the ceilings and the creaking of the floors. These rooms are truly superb.

halls
There are no conference rooms in this hotel. In the summer some work can be done in the inner court, but in the winter this is certainly not a place we would recommend. Unfortunately this hotel cannot meet your needs for parties or conferences.

situation
The location on the Keizersgracht is very beautiful but rather remote. This means that the Leidsestraat is at least a fifteen-minute walk away. On the other hand, you can easily make use of public transport or taxi services. Parking alongside the canals is extremely expensive and nearly impossible, but that is all that can be said against the location.
